Really cool folds in soft sediments from our Israel trip
The explanation for these was an instability that develops when two fluids with different viscosities are sheared at different speeds. Its supposed to develop during Earth Quakes. The sediments are very soft lake sediments deposited in the Dead Sea area.
I have also seen that Ian Alsop from Aberdeen has published on these:
Alsop, GI. & Marco, S. (2011). ‘Soft-sediment deformation within seismogenic slumps of the Dead Sea Basin’. Journal of Structural Geology, vol 33, no. 4, pp. 433-457.
